7 long days left

No baby yet. The doctor told me on Monday that the baby would definatly be comming this week. Now its Thursday and Im getting a little impatient. I was already dialated to a 3 and 80% effaced. Ive been having contractions for the past 4 days but nothing regular that lasts more than 2 hours. They have been getting stronger and stronger though. I would like any suggestions to help me with my first real labor (Tommy was a c-section). Anything you wouldnt go to the hospital without, things to do, what to expect, games to play, things for David, anything. Tom told Dave to bring altoids for the smell (???). Ive got my toes painted a shiny color with lots of jewels to distract me. Everything is packed and ready to go. I even wrote down a medical release form for Tommy. I want suggestions from the girls and husbands who have done this before. Love you all.

For David: Lots of pipecleaners for him to make little people.

For Tommy: Bubble wrap to wrap around him so while mom is in labor he isn't adding to his bruise collection.

For Heather and Jane: Angels to watch over. I hear they are hard to pack, but I'm sure you'll find a way ;)

Best of luck Heather!! Wish I had some real advice, but this is one of those "gotta have experience" moments...and I doubt you'd want some advice from the hollers of West Virginia! :D

Sorry, Heather, Van had all c-sections so we aren't any help there. Is mom able to go help? Or is your mother flying in?

Well seeing as how my labor lasted a whole 5 hours, there wasn't really much waiting around. My lips got dry, so have chapstick. Greg was asking the nurse a lot of questions, it seemed like the time just flew by. But bring snacks for David. Im sure you will already bring them for Tommy. Oh and take the epidural if you are able to. Loved that! Good luck, I hope it's like mine if not better!

The only other tip I can think of (afterall, it's been soooo long ago), ice chips. They won't let you drink and you can get very thirsty. The nurse can get ice chips for you.

bring your own shampoo to shower the next day. the stuff they provided wasn't very good. As far as the smell: Placenta doesn't smell very good and sometimes if you are pushing really hard more than just a baby comes out, if you know what I mean. No one ever says it but most women poop a little when they are in labor because they are pushing really hard and if you are numb from the epidural, its hard to tell what muscles you are using to push. I guess sucking on a mint helps keep the smell away? Don't eat much before you go because you will most likely throw it up while in labor. Thats why you can only have ice chips. hopefully she will come out fast! I was in labor for 22 hours, I was so bored at the hospital but the pain distracted me too much to do anything that would keep me entertained. It would probably be easiest to keep tommy with at babysitter so he doesn't get bored waiting. ok this is getting long, Good Luck!
