June Happenings in Texas

Jacob turned 15.  He will be getting his driving permit soon!
(I forgot to buy candles for his cake, so we used our emergency candles.  Hey, it was an emergency, right?!)

We planted a garden in a friend's backyard.  All the weird weather has hurt our harvests, but we have been able to get a few tomatoes and strawberries.

We went to a Pioneer Farm and I cooked Rebecca for dinner.

Sarah turned 13.  We now have two teenagers in our family.  Sarah has been spending the last two weeks in California.  She is coming home tonight.  My mom says that she missed our dog, Sammi, more than she missed the rest of the family.

Elizabeth performed her last ballet recital with the studio she was in.  Unfortunately they required a lot of Sunday activities and Elizabeth was really feeling left out because she did not attend on Sundays.  Hopefully we can find another studio for her to go to next year. (She did an excellent job on her performance!)

Jacob got an MRI on Monday to see the results of his last round of chemo.  As we suspected, from the large lump visible on his neck, the chemo did not work.  It is hard to have hope and have it dashed again, but all we can do is keep pushing through.  The tumor has moved from the right side of his neck to the left side of his neck.  We are blessed that it is not pushing on his spine at all, just the muscles.  He can hardly move his head from side to side at all.  His doctor told us that we are going to move on to surgeries and medicine patches to help with the pain.  She is hoping that he can have a surgery that will have a 2 week recovery and then have 6 months or so of no pain before the next surgery is needed again.  In the mean time we will pray that research comes up with a new treatment for him.  His next surgery is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of August.  Hopefully he will be recovered enough to start school on the 24th.

Thank you for posting. Looks like you've had a busy summer so far. I'm glad Sarah got to go to CA. And here's hoping another ballet studio can be found - Elizabeth is really getting good. And was Rebecca tough after you cooked her?
We're sorry to hear that the chemo didn't work. What a trooper Jacob is! And I think that last picture of him is good. Hope, if possible, the surgery can be after we get there. Grandpa really wants to take him driving :)
Love you Scott and Gwen, too.

Thanks so much for posting and updating the family on the Scot and Gwen branch! We are so proud of the progress you are all making and continue to place Jacob's name in the Temple each and every time we go (at least once a month)! Grandpa
