Jacob's Next Surgery

Jacob's tumor is back in force and has grown dramatically over the last couple of months. The MRI showed that it is pushing on his spine this time, but they won't be sure if it has eroded into the spine until they get the results of a CT scan that he will be having on Monday. They aren't sure what they are going to do for his next surgery since he has had so many. Once they get the CT results his doctors are going to do some research and get together with us on Thursday.

At that point I am hoping to schedule his next surgery as soon as possible. He is on a lot of pain medication and still in constant pain. In fact, his pain has never completely gone away since his last surgery in August.

His oncologist is going to be sending samples of his tumor to many different studies to try and see what medicine will work on his specific tumor to stop it from growing. We are praying that this upcoming surgery will be more successful and that his oncologist will be able to find a "cure" for Jacob's tumors.

Since Fast Sunday is coming up in a couple of days, we were wondering, if you are able, if you could join with us in a fast for Jacob and his doctors. This is by far his scariest surgery so far.

Last Sunday was a day of fasting and prayer for us here in Hannibal in behalf of Jacob. Please update your post tomorrow, after you have spoken with Jacob's doctor, so that we are all current in what the next steps will be. We love you, Gwen, and Jacob is constantly on our minds, in our hearts and certainly, constantly in our prayers morning and night. We love him so very much.

At our doctor's appointment on Thursday, Jacob's doctors mentioned trying to get him into a medical study that is going on right now on desmoid tumors. At first it looked like Jacob would have to take the medicine from the study for a month before he could have his surgery, but we found out late Friday that they could probably accept him after his surgery. So now we are waiting on the schedulers of the doctors/surgeons to try to get things set up for his surgery, but also trying to get things going with the study at the same time (Gwen and Jacob would have to fly out to California to get him enrolled in the study, but then they'd be able to bring the medicine home). Long and short, we don't really know yet what's going to happen, but are hopeful that his surgery will take place this week sometime.

Hopefully the study will accept him and the surgery will go well!! I couldn't even imagine the heartache you and Scott must be feeling as you watch him in pain, so we always keep you two in our prayers as well. Love and miss you guys!!
