Fitting for Memorial Day

I've been going through the boxes I brought back from AZ that were Grandma Johns's. I found this story my father wrote. I don't know if it was printed in the newspaper. What is significant about this (besides showing what a good writer he was - my children have inherited that!) is that Grandpa Johns was not only on Iwo Jima, I just learned in his autobiographical sketch, he was a witness to the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi - that famous photo/sculpture. So as he writes about this battle, it's from personal experience.

Oh, and the paper looks that color because the copy paper they typed on is a buff color.

Wow! That is amazing! I like the mile to yard comparison and LOVE the way he finishes. That's special momma!
