Reupholstering? I am trying to find a craft or thing that i can do over winter break when we are at mom and dads for awhile, because aaron will be off all day long working getting vet hours. anyway i was thinking about doing this to our couch. i am pretty confident in being able to get it done and have it look nice but sadly to say there isnt any free how to things that i know where to get. SO i wanted to ask the fam if anyone knew anything about this and what i might be getting myself into. because if its going to be a huge hassle or mess than i dont want to do it but just thought i would ask.

I think the cost might be prohibitive. Upholstery material is expensive, even when on sale and a couch takes quite a few yards, especially if you are trying to match patterns, stripes, etc. Were you going to bring the couch to our house? Magi has done some reupholstering - she can tell you whether it's hard or not.
How about you help me do my dining room chairs????
Not to discourage you from accomplishing this great task but, chairs are far simpler to do than a couch. When Leighann and I first got married we looked into reupholstering our couch. Everything we found on it said that it is far cheaper to buy a new couch than to reupholster one. So unless you have a Victorian hand carved couch that only has two cousins that need to be reupholstered I would go with Mom's idea and rock out the chairs.
It is only cheaper if you don't shop right. I bought material to do the love seat in my room and spent $24. I have a staple gun for furniture, like $10 and staples, about $3. We have LA garment district and we have a Home Fabrics store that has material at amazing prices. It is cost effective if you can find material (don't shop at Joann's for material)
To redo: Just take out the staples. Keep the old material piece to use as a pattern to cut the new material. Pull material super tight then staple. Put all the pieces back on in the reverse order you took them off.
I have done this with my mom and sisters many times and am doing my own love seat and chair this month. I think try it once and decide if it is something you want to keep doing.
Starting with chairs is a good idea because it is easy and will give you an idea if it is something you want to do.
