I'm a Teacher!
Well, just about a teacher! I had my internship interviews with Nebo district today for this coming school year and just found out that I've been offered a position at Sage Creek Elementary School teaching 5th grade!! I was so excited I was jumping up and down while still talking on the phone with my new principal!
The interview process was really awesome. I interviewed with two groups of principals and school liaisons, and in the second group was Diana Guinn, the wife of dad's best friend (and the guy who baptized dad) Dwayne Guinn! Small world, right? It gets smaller: she also knows Roy's parents and is a dear friend to them! So when they asked me to tell them a little about myself, and I said I was from Hannibal, Missouri, she spoke up and said, "Do you know Tom Gibbons?" "That's my dad!" I felt so much more relaxed after that because I remembered meeting her and her husband on multiple occasions, and they had just attended Grandma's funeral (which she said, and then I started crying...only a little though). I asked, "You came to my wedding last April, right?" "Hemmert...oh! You married Roy!" Man, small world, and such a sweet sweet blessing from Heavenly Father that Diana would be in that interview room!
At the end of my interview, the main lady asked me what would set me apart from the rest of the interviewers to help them remember me, so I talked about my dance background and how that's made me into who I am today. The lady then goes, "Show us something!" So I got to show them a tour jete They clapped and I felt like that made me stand out!
Sure enough, just a few hours after my interview I got a call from the principal of Sage Creek Elementary offering me a position with fifth graders! That is also the school that Diana Guinn works at, so I'm super excited to be working with her and to carry on the good Gibbons name!

And when I say I cried only a little, I meant I composed myself quickly. I cry more than just a little about missing Grandma..
Wow! I don't know why I still get surprised to see the tender mercies of the Lord, but it is such a great reminder that He is there and that He cares about our lives. That is an amazing story. (Not to sound like an old man here, but I hope you wrote that down in a journal). That was a great experience. So happy for you!
Congrats Heather-weather! And thanks for the story! The Lord sure blesses this family!
Wow! Scott and I are both so happy for you!
So cool and congrats!
When do you start?
waahoo! you'll be an awesome teacher! Feel free to practice potential lesson plans on us.
That is so cool!! Don't you dare screw this up (winkie)
Yea and Double Yea, Heather! We are so proud of you! And we are so humbled and thankful to our Heavenly Father for his abundant and ever so very kind blessings on our family. Let us all remember to thank Him each and every day--once again, you can NEVER get ahead of the Lord! Dad
And who would WANT to get ahead of the Lord! :)
I don't have a ton of information about it yet, but I'll get to start setting up my classroom in July sometime, and then first day of class is August 21st! I'll teach until the end of May next year!
When I told my mentor teacher of my 4th grade practicum this semester about the internship, she got all excited because she taught fifth grade for 4 years, so she started giving me all these materials and lesson plans and resources that she still had from her fifth grade teaching. So I've got a good start already! Another blessing!
I also found out today that, if I had chosen to interview with Alpine district (the district I've done both of my practicums in), I would have gotten an internship as well. The principal at the school I'm at now for my practicum is impressed with my (and the two other girls who are there) work and thinks I've been doing well in 4th grade. The intern position at that school for next year is fourth grade, so they were hoping I'd interview with Alpine so he could hire me for 4th grade! It's nice to know I'm wanted in multiple places :)
2 potential job offers, both wonderful opportunities for you guys -I'm assuming you and Roy are full tithe-payers (since we have wonderful parents who instilled that desire in all of us!)- This is literally a fulfillment of the covenant that the Lord will bless you more than you have room to receive it!
