We went camping with some friends. They brought their repelling gear. The kids had a great time climbing the wall then hopping down. Tom and I loved watching them have this fun experience.

That looks like so much fun! What brave kids! :-D
Looks like fun.
Grandpa Gibbons is so very proud of his adventurous grandchildren (and their parents for allowing and providing such a fun time for their kids). Love you all. Grnadpa
Wow, this is amazing!! Absolutely, so neat!! These kids look so good climbing the rocks, they have no fear whatsoever. Anna and Matthew just look so natural. And you guys must really trust your friends because that looks like a scary cliff face, and all your family was playing on it so effortlessly. Those rocks look like they could be used by big horn sheep at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.
Speaking of San Diego Wild Animal Park, have you guys been to the World Famous San Diego Zoo? It is absolutely amazing. Every time we go the orangutans always seem to remember us. But probably our favorite animal to see at the Zoo is an okapi.
Do you guys know what an okapi is? If not, refer back to Peter's random post a few months ago. Remember, the post about the Random Act of Kindness Day, when Peter's random act of kindness saved us from the pregnant men pictures Shannon had posted? Well, if you don't remember those pictures, it was three photos. One was of Peter holding his belly lovingly as if he were a pregnant woman. One was a picture of Roy pushing out his belly. And Aaron was the last picture. This picture of Aaron you may have to dig deep into your psyche to retrieve, as you probably suppressed the horrific image of his nude upper body as he posed like a mother-to-be holding his engorged stomach and hiding his chest.
Aaron has always had a penchant for trying to act like a woman. Once, when he was little, he went through a phase of breast-feeding all my baby dolls. I think Mom was breast-feeding Heather at the time, and Aaron must have thought he could grow up to be like Mom. Fortunately, and despite the odd influences of Santa Cruz, he realized that that would never happen. He thus gave up his dream of breast-feeding. But that picture of pregnant Aaron has shown us all that he still harbors some feelings towards his feminine side. I say, "Good for you, Aaron."
Any-who, back to the Zoo. As I was discussing earlier, the okapi is an animal that is from the giraffe family. It has a long tongue like a giraffe, but it looks kind of like some domicile animal with zebra hind quarters. On our last trip to the World Famous San Diego Zoo, we were told how the okapi was not even discovered until the turn of the century as it lives deep in the jungles of the Republic of Congo of Africa. It's striped hind-quarters are so effective at hiding it, that despite it's size, explorers were unable to acknowledge it's existence.
We think if you ever get the chance to take the kids to the World Famous San Diego Zoo, you should definitely make your way down past the tiger exhibit, and before you find yourself at the hippopotamus exhibit, they can all see the okapi. If they are lucky, this gentle giant will be using his 14-inch tongue to scrape the leaves off the ferns right near the enclosure! It is quite a site to see!
Speaking of luck and quite a site to see, it sure is lucky no one got hurt doing such amazing things as repelling! I never had the chance to go repelling (well, I did once, at a Girl's Camp, but I was standing in line forever, and when it was almost my turn the girl in front of me got her braid stuck in the gears and so after they cut her hair to get her loose, they closed down the whole thing. So I missed my chance.) Wow, I've never left such a long comment, so I think I will wrap up now.
Point is, I think these kids are amazing and so brave!! Beth looks so beautiful in her close up picture, and I can't even believe they make repelling helmets small enough for Emma and Lucy! It looks so fun, and next time you go, you should give us a call :D Love you guys!!
