More on Jacob

Jacob was able to come home from the hospital on Saturday.  It is nice to have the whole family back together in the same house.  Scott really, really likes being able to sleep in his own bed again.

We talked to his plethora of doctors on Friday to find out the plan for his future.  The doctor that is going to take care of his arm came in and told us that he is 99% sure that it is another desmoid tumor.  He doesn't want to cut it out like the one on his head because it may limit the mobility of his arm and hand.  Instead we are going to be doing radiation on his arm to try to stop the tumor from getting any bigger.

They also found out, after the pathology report, that there is one area on his neck where there was not a margin around the tumor.  That means that they most likely did not get it all.  Since he is getting tumors on more than one part of his body, they want to treat his whole body and not just keep removing the tumor from his head.  He will be starting chemotherapy again to try and keep the one on his head from coming back and prevent others from showing up in other places.  We do not know yet if that will be once a week like before or what at this point, but, it looks like, unless there is another medical breakthrough, he will have to do chemo off and on for the rest of his life.

Right now Jacob is just resting up and trying to get back his strength.  Then we will figure out where we go from there.  He is starting physical therapy this next week to try and get back some mobility in his neck and right arm.  The doctor said that he should gain most of that mobility back.  If he keeps progressing as he is right now, he should be able to go back to school in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your prayers.  It would have been nice if he could have a surgery, heal and go one with life as normal, but apparently that is not what Heavenly Father has in store for him.  I know that we are in His hands.

I am sorry to hear this. I can't even imagine how hard this must be for Jacob and the whole family. With that said, I feel very blessed to call Jacob family. Gwen, hearing what Jacob says how he is still so blessed is remarkable and I am sure you are one proud parent. You will continue to be in our prayers. Love you all and can't wait to see you guys in only a few short months!

It must be such a relief having Jacob home. I really really wish we lived closer to you guys, seeing Jacob in that hospital bed just breaks my heart. I know the Lord can work miracles, and He has a plan for each one of His sons and daughters. I am so grateful to see you guys using this trial to stay close to the Lord, He will never, never forget the needs of His servants.

We'll continue to keep you all in our prayers!

And THANK YOU Gwen for posting the link to that FB video, Facebook has limiting any posts I see to only like the same 5 or 6 people, so I hadn't seen it yet, its really frustrating.

That young man has the opportunity to be a spiritual giant! Everyone I've ever known that has to endure trials like these, especially in their youth, have such a great perspective on eternity (and their families). One of my all-time favorite people I have ever met had a severely handicapped little brother, and she once told me that seeing her brother go through the medical procedures he had to go through and how he handled it helped her understand trials deeper. I know Jacob will be able to stay positive through this all!!
