Childhood memories

I don't know what made me think of it, but today I thought of that old song that mom used to put on for us when we were kids, I think it was maybe even on a record? Or was it a tape? Either way, when I listened to this today I was completely filled with nostalgia, I had to share it with the kiddies.

I think the last time I heard this song I was about Tommy's age.

Go, My Son

It was a record! Dad and I went to Mingus High School to a concert the then-called Lamanite Generation put on and we bought the LP record there. When we lived in Maryland and I was Cub Scout leader (Mark and David were in the den), we performed this song with the hand motions. Last summer Dad and I went to Nauvoo to see them perform - I forget what they are called now - and the lyrics have changed just a little. It was wonderful and 2 of the performers were from Camp Verde and children of our friends Helen and Greg Freeman.

They are now called "Living Legends".

On Youtube is the original, and it's the record because you can hear the static. It's the one with the girls in white - that the album I wish I still had!

I remember sitting in the gym at Clarkdale-Jerome, and thinking this was the most beautiful song I ever heard performed, and I wanted to learn the hand gestures that went with it. That night I remember the most they also had fry bread with honey. So good!! Why did we ever leave AZ again?

Leighann you had to leave Arizona so Bippy could join the family! It was for a good cause!
I have a friend from Santa Cruz that was performing with the living legends for a while. Maybe some of you know Eva bighorse?

Mel,
I agree with you--leaving Arizona was the best decision we ever made so that we could gain a new son. But not only a new son, but also a new daughter. And not only a new son and daughter but also two wonderful, funny, happy grandchildren (to date). I am sooooooo... glad we left Arizona!
