I Have A Job in Missouri!!!

Hello Family!

So, Mom and Dad and I got to David and Heather's late Friday evening, July 11th. I immediately began going around to the places where I applied to place my resume in person and meet anyone I could. I started to get frustrated, because a whole week passed where I did not receive a single call back from any of the businesses.

On Monday, July 21st I received my first callback from a company called Stainless Fabrication, Inc (SFI) which manufactures stainless steel tanks. I went in and had my interview with their Accounting Manager on Wednesday, July 23rd.

Between that Wednesday and the next, I had numerous other interviews with other companies, and was extended my first offer of employment. While I was really grateful for that offer, it was not with SFI, which had really impressed me with the longevity of their workforce (the majority of which has been with the company for over 10 years), their great benefits (employee healthcare is 100% covered by the employer, and for any dependents you pay $300 annually-- and that doesn't change with the number of dependents), and how nice and open the Accounting Manager and CFO were. So, SFI was my first choice in employer. I asked the company that extended that offer to me if I could have some time to consider it, because I was hoping that SFI would extend an offer. I had my third round interview with SFI on Thursday, July 31st and they introduced me to the rest of the accounting department so I could ask those employees about the CFO and Accounting Manager, and any other questions I may have. It went well, and it seems like they employ a lot of sharp people-- one of my responsibilities would be to oversee their work, so it was nice to have the opportunity to meet them.

Friday, August 1st, the Accounting Manager and CFO of SFI called and extended to me a very generous salaried position with SFI, and I accepted! I sent thank-yous to the other company that gave me an offer previously that I turned down since my first choice wanted me. I start work on Monday and will be the Staff Accountant for the company, working directly under the Accounting Manager and CFO.

It is pretty exciting stuff, and I feel like I have been very blessed. I feel I could not have done this without the prayers and support of my family! I am still shocked that after 8 months of being under-employed and unemployed in California, that in less than a month I got my dream job, and will be able to specialize in manufacturing accounting now! I love Springfield, MO!! It has a lot of the amenities of Southern CA, but the people are infinitely nicer, there is no traffic, no smog, and trees EVERYWHERE. I seriously am so grateful we made the decision to make this move-- now if only my hubby was here, life would be perfect!

It has also been a blast living with David and Heather, and I really appreciate that they have put a roof over my head and Heather's amazing cooking in my belly while I looked for a position. I'll keep living with them until Peter joins me in Missouri probably, and I have acclimated to my new position with SFI. It will be a learning curve for me, but the Accounting Manager and CFO understand that and say they aren't worried about my capability to catch on. Still, I am very grateful I can focus on catching on without having to worry about looking for a place to live.

Thank you so much, Family, for your thoughts and prayers!! I love you all!

I'm so glad you posted about it on the blog! I saw Peter's facebook status that you got a job but I wanted details! Congratulations Leighann! I'm so glad Missouri has been a good move for so much of our family (who would've thought, huh?)

When does Peter get to come home?

Peter doesn't get to join me until the end of September, but if the days goes as fast as my first day at work went today, then hopefully he'll be here before I know it. It sure has felt like forever since I've seen my husband!! And it's only been a month :(

As for my allergies-- they have been absolutely horrible! But I have found local bee pollen, so I am hoping my body will respond well to that. And I'm in good company-- almost the entire accounting department at SFI suffers from allergies!
